  • Currently the autopilot is being installed. A funtional schematic of the planned system can be found in The airplane.
  • The next step to the maximum flight time will be the integration of an autopilot...
  • 22.5.2017: New Record 3h 2min! Interminatus' fourth flight has been the longest until now. The pilot had to give up earlier than the plane, which would have flown on for a lot longer... To the video
  • 23rd April 2017: First test flight with the new solar panel in sunny and gusty conditions. To the flight log entry
  • April 2017: The solar panel has been completely replaced by a new one. 60 Sunpower Maxeon C60 were laminated with glass fiber on both sides. The module is now robust, flexible, more efficient, more powerful and lighter than the previous one. Nominal power is 96 W (STC) at a panelmass of 300g.
  • March 2016: More than one cell broke during transport or storage of the wing.
  • December 2015: The Matura paper is finished
  • On 7th September 2015 the second solar flight was aborted after a flight time of 65 minutes because of too strong winds.
  • The maiden flight was successful! On 22nd August 2015 Interminatus stayed airborne from 5.00pm to 6.06pm for over an hour solely on solar power.

The project

The solar airplane "Interminatus" was built as a final project at Gymnasium Kirchenfeld Bern. The idea arose in February 2015, in August Interminatus had its maiden flight. The according paper can be found in Downloads (in German).

Since the end of the school project the plane has been refined: The solar panel was totally replaced by a new one. The recent flight test was successful. In the coming summer '17 Interminatus is supposed to take off for a first endurance flight  where are the limits? Until then the prop will be optimized, a new wing with reduced dihedral be built and maybe even an autopilot installed.
